Youthreach Ballina learners have embraced a diverse range of activities this autumn, combining educational development with community engagement. The centre’s commitment to holistic learning was evident in initiatives spanning environmental awareness, wellness, creativity, and charitable outreach.
Recent highlights include an educational session with Waste Warriors Workshop, emphasising environmental responsibility. Student-led projects demonstrated leadership development, with learners organising a successful charity coffee morning, coordinating wellness activities including a heritage walk to Belleek Castle, and participating in Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal to support vulnerable children overseas.
The centre received a significant boost with teacher Grainne Kelly securing participation in the Arts Council’s ‘Creative Schools’ initiative. This programme will provide valuable resources including guidance from a Creative Associate, professional development opportunities, and seed funding to implement a tailored Creative School Plan.
November’s Wellness Week exemplifies our focus on student wellbeing and career development, featuring collaboration with Youthreach Kiltimagh, participation in the Mayo Career Fair, engagement with Planet Youth 2024, and outdoor education activities at Achill OETC. December will bring further opportunities for student engagement, including recreational activities and a shared Christmas dinner with Mayo College of Further Education & Training learners.
Infrastructure improvements are underway, with renovations approved for the music room, meeting room and kitchen upgrades, and new window treatments enhancing our learning environment. These developments will support our growing creative programmes and provide an improved space for student projects.
